Dublin Fish Market Study

Bord lascaigh Mhara (BIM) and the Dublin Fish Market Association engaged the Urban Design and Planning Unit of Murray O’Laoire Architects (MOLA) and Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) to advise them with regard to an Urban Design Framework proposed by Dublin City Council for the Markets Area of Dublin.

Emma Curley, in her role as head of the Urban Design Unit (MOLA), assisted the clients in interpreting the potential impact of the proposed Framework on their operations and created a Design Proposal for a new purpose-built market that could be incorporated into the City Council’s plans. As part of this Design Proposal, Emma Curley conducted research on best practice models and recommended new processes that would integrate EU standards into the Fish Market’s operations. She served as an important liaison between the client, informing them about the implications of the proposal, and the Council, calling their attention to the concerns and needs of the BIM and the Dublin Fish Market Association.

Emma worked in close partnership with PwC who undertook financial feasibility studies and proposed a potential new management structure. Together, Emma and PwC provided consultation services that helped their clients to proactively engage the City Council and strategically position themselves so as to maximise the benefits to their operations.
